A small apartment, as a rule, requires a specific design – you need to think through the functionality as competently as possible. In small rooms, it is important to choose the right scale and proportions of furniture. A small apartment can also be made stylish, cozy and comfortable, the main thing here is not to overload the interior with bulky items, properly zoning and practical use of colors. Why refuse, arranging a small apartment?
Of course, the main light source is one of the most important elements of a living space. Yes, a large chic chandelier causes admiration and positive emotions, but, despite this, this option is not suitable for a small apartment. A chandelier of impressive dimensions literally “eats up” precious and useful space, which is already scarce. Therefore, it is better to abandon such items, and instead use different light compositions, hidden lighting (for example, in the ceiling), decorative light. This will not only visually expand the area, but also harmoniously correct the shortcomings of a small space.
In small-sized apartments, the main task of the designer is to maximize/expand the space, i.e. make it more free. Blind partitions and additional false walls will have to be abandoned. If the interior requires separate zoning of a particular part of the apartment, use texture, color shades, a combination of different finishing materials, or compact structures such as niches or podiums.
Blind facades of interior doors and furniture greatly overload the space. If partitions and doors are necessary by design or from a practical point of view, pay special attention to structures made of glass or with transparent inserts. In small apartments, it is rational to use sliding doors.
Of course, an antique chest of drawers looks chic, but in a small space, all its advantages are automatically reduced to zero. The same goes for a large wardrobe, which visually dominates the room, because it “absorbs” the feeling of spaciousness.
Furniture for a small apartment should be visually light, but at the same time multifunctional. An excellent solution is a wardrobe with a huge mirror. Storage space can also be arranged in the catwalk. The furniture should have some airiness, for example, hanging elements on the walls.
Wallpaper with a large drawing
If you have a small apartment, it is advisable to avoid such finishing. For small rooms, Wallpaper with a large pattern is absolutely not suitable, because visually it “compresses” the space even more. Here, plain walls or Wallpaper with small patterns will be more appropriate.
Dark colors have a negative impact on the perception of a small space. The feeling of lightness and freedom is given only by light colors. In small rooms, it is best to avoid contrasts that hurt the eye, and regardless of the design element (walls, floor, furniture). Posters in thin frames, hanging bookshelves or mirror compositions are ideal. Large paintings or large stucco molding for a small interior are extremely inappropriate, because they excessively clutter and narrow the space.
